Common Types of Fur Used in Coats

Real fur is exquisite and luxurious, and the warmth and comfort it provides the wearer cannot be equated by faux fur coats. Moreover, since there are various types of fur that make excellent coats, jackets, or scarves, you can be further assured that each choice will have qualities and features that make them unique.

Mink

Mink is widely used because it’s available in a wide array of natural colors. It is also quite lightweight, so you don’t have to lug around a heavy coat whenever you go out into the freezing winter. Mink also has rather shiny hairs, and a dense and soft underfur.

Lynx

The fur of the Russian lynx is considered to be of the highest quality (hence it is typically the most expensive), although American and Canadian lynxes are also favored by many. This type of fur is prominent for having black spots in a white background.

Sable

Sables are found only in Russia, thus this type of fur can be quite rare elsewhere. You can recognize sable fur immediately as it is very smooth regardless of how you stroke it. Although it can be difficult to find (ask your fur store for the real thing), you will be rewarded with a fur type that comes in many shades and colors.
